The North West 200 is one of Northern Ireland's most iconic sporting events.
Each year, it attracts tens of thousands of visitors, international competitors, global media attention and significant economic benefits for the region. Behind its success is a dedicated team of professionals responsible for delivering an event that has become a cornerstone of Northern Ireland's tourism and sporting calendar.
Emir McLaughlin, Event Manager at the North West 200, is one of the professionals helping drive that success. Her journey with the organisation began five years ago when she secured the role of Event Coordinator through Riada. Since then, she has progressed into a leadership position, helping deliver an event that plays a significant role in Northern Ireland's sporting, tourism and economic landscape.

A New Direction
Before joining the North West 200, Emir was working in asset management. While she had built valuable experience, she was seeking a role that better aligned with her strengths and interests. Reflecting on the opportunity that first brought her to Riada, Emir says:
"At the time, I was working in asset management but was looking to make a change into a role that better suited my skills and strengths. When the Event Coordinator position with the North West 200 came up, I immediately applied as it felt like a perfect opportunity to move into a more dynamic, fast-paced environment that aligned with my interests."
The role offered far more than a change of scenery. It provided an opportunity to develop professionally within a high-profile organisation at the centre of one of Northern Ireland's most significant events.
"The role offered a unique opportunity to develop my skills in event management, stakeholder engagement, sponsorship and project delivery. It was a chance to take on new challenges in a fast-paced environment and be part of a world renowned event."

Making an Impact
What stood out most to Emir was the scale of the event's impact, both on the local community and the wider region.
Building a Career
One of the key factors behind Emir's success has been finding a role that aligns closely with her career ambitions.
"The role aligned perfectly with my desire to work in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. It provided opportunities to develop professionally while working with a wide range of stakeholders, sponsors, media partners and public sector organisations."
What began as an opportunity to step into a new industry quickly evolved into a long-term career. Since joining the North West 200 as Event Coordinator, Emir has progressed to Event Manager, taking on a leadership role within an event that attracts international attention and delivers significant benefits for Northern Ireland's economy and tourism sector.
"The biggest benefit has been the career progression and professional development opportunities. Since joining as Event Coordinator, I have progressed to Event Manager, which has allowed me to take on greater responsibility and continue to grow my skills and experience."
Her progression is a reflection of both her ambition and the opportunities available to those prepared to embrace new challenges and continue developing their expertise.

The Riada Experience
Looking back on the recruitment process, Emir credits Riada's support with helping her navigate the opportunity with confidence.
"Riada provided excellent support throughout the process. They kept me informed at every stage, prepared me well for interviews and ensured I had a clear understanding of both the role and the organisation."
She adds:
"My experience with Riada was extremely positive. The team was professional, approachable and supportive throughout the recruitment process, making the transition into my new role seamless."
Five Years Later
Perhaps the greatest measure of success is what happens long after the recruitment process ends.
Five years later, Emir's career has evolved far beyond the opportunity she first applied for. What began as a role as Event Coordinator has developed into a leadership position, bringing new challenges, greater responsibility and the opportunity to continue developing her skills and expertise.
"Riada took the time to understand my skills, experience and career aspirations, and matched me with an opportunity that has ultimately led to a rewarding long-term career. Five years later, I am still benefiting from the opportunity they helped me secure."
Looking back on her journey, she reflects:
"What started as a role as Event Coordinator has grown into a rewarding career with the North West 200, leading to my progression to Event Manager. Looking back, it has been one of the best career decisions I have made."

Looking Ahead
One of the most rewarding aspects of recruitment is seeing people flourish in careers that truly align with their ambitions.
Emir's progression is a testament to her talent, commitment and ambition. It's a reminder that when the right opportunity meets the right person, the impact can extend far beyond the recruitment process.
We're proud to have played a small part in Emir's success and look forward to following the next chapter of her career.
