For the first time in almost 70 years, the iconic Open Championship is taking place at Royal Portrush Golf Club. With over 190,000 spectators and visitors from around the world, 500 journalists covering the tournament and an estimated £80 million in economic benefit from hosting the event, Portrush and the whole of the North Coast are coming together to play a huge part in sporting history.
156 players will compete for the Claret Jug trophy presented on Sunday 21st July 2019 including our very own Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke. Northern Ireland is huge in the world of golf and it’s amazing a region so small can produce so many world class golfers as well as beautiful and challenging courses, over 90 in total, all squeezed into approximately 5460sq miles of green and lush landscape.
